The relevance for later CFO roles is scale: getting countries, functions and categories onto one performance framework without reducing the business to a finance process.
1. Performance management must force choices
At scale, organisations quickly create more data than decision capacity. The CFO principle is therefore not “more dashboards” but one performance language that exposes the same drivers and trade-offs to leaders.
2. Data and digital are finance operating-model questions
Digital finance works only when data ownership, definitions, processes and management use change together. Tooling alone otherwise accelerates existing inconsistency.
This is directly relevant to interim CFO situations where ERP, EPM, BI or AI must improve alongside business control.
3. Productivity needs line-of-sight to realised value
Global Zero-Based Budgeting and indirect-spend programmes made value delivery measurable through baselines, owners and realised savings. The same principle applies to PE value creation: an initiative counts only when the P&L/cash bridge shows what was actually delivered.
